Conference

The session starts with a question: What does freedom mean in the context of digital technology?

Through a lightning talk, discussants will engage with short case studies of digital technology and its applications in contemporary African cities. The case studies will outline i) the spark and context for change, ii) the challenges and opportunities encountered, and iii) the situation now. Together these case studies will tell a story of a contemporary Africa that is contending with a digital technology boom and an impending youth dividend. At the end, participants will understand the complex factors influencing digital technology use in Africa and the exercises of agency by young people using them.
