We can only pay fees in selected cases and up to a certain amount. These are negotiated on an individual basis. Basically, we differentiate as follows
- Invited Speakers on our main stage (who are invited by the programme team) may receive a speaking fee.
- Invited speakers for panels and interviews (invited by the programme team) may receive a compensation fee.
- Speakers from the Call for Participation will not receive a fee, but will receive access to the event for all three days of the festival (including catering on the day of your session).
Thanks to our partners and collaborations with other festivals, we also have the opportunity to receive funding for travel and/or fees for selected individual speakers. We will clearly mark programme sessions that have been supported financially by sponsors and/or partners in the programme.
At re:publica you have the opportunity to become either a stage host or a moderator /facilitator. Here are the details for both roles:
- Stage hosts are responsible for a specific stage on a festival day. They will announce the daily programme, guide you through the different sessions and in some cases moderate the Q&A session at the end of each session. They also inform the audience about changes to the programme and highlights on the festival grounds.
- Moderators/facilitators conduct interviews or lead discussion panels. They are an essential part of a session, helping to keep the discussion lively, balanced and informative.
re:publica already has a pool of hosts and moderators who have worked at the event in the past. We can accommodate both full professionals and talented amateurs, depending on the size of the stage and the content of the session.
In case your are interested,, please contact the programme team at programme@re-publica.com to apply.
Yes, because each profile is linked to the respective session. We also accredit presenters and stage hosts as well as speakers for our ticketing. Please note that a moderator should only be added to a session after prior consultation and confirmed availability.
Stage hosts come from our community and are paid a small compensation fee, based on the size of the stage. The exception to this is our main stage. For our largest stage, we hire and book our hosts.
The re:publica programme is compiled from several sources. It includes submissions from our Call for Participation (CfP), content from our partners and content curated by our programme team.
- CfP submissions should be completed by the submission deadline, including moderation / facilitation for panels and interviews. If not, we will recommend moderators from our pool, but will not pay any fees.
- Partners can book programme slots and determine content, speakers and moderators in consultation with our team. The organisation and payment of fees or expenses for speakers and moderators are usually the responsibility of the partner.
- Our programme team plans and curates main stage sessions, interviews and panels, sometimes in collaboration with recommendations or co-curators from our community. For these curated sessions, we select moderators /facilitators, who may be compensated based on the size of the stage and the topic.
All moderators / facitlitators receive access to re:publica for all three days and meals on the day of their moderation.
The programme for the re:publica in Berlin is compiled by a team of curators who in this process try to accommodate a wide range of topics and speakers in order to create a diverse and relevant programme.
The curators carefully review the proposals submitted by the CfP and select those that best fit re:publica. They are supported by the track teams, external advisors from our community with expertise in specific subject areas.
re:publica strives to present a balanced mix of well-known experts and emerging voices to provide a broad perspective on our many topics.
In order to ensure the balanced curation of the re:publica programme, we have set up a "track team" for each track, consisting of external advisors who will review and evaluate the CfP submissions in that category. The track teams consist of 4-10 members, including representatives of the digital community, loyal friends of re:publica and experts in their field, as well as returning speakers.
"Tracks” are general subject areas to which you can assign your submission. All tracks (categories) are defined at the beginning of the Call for Participation (CfP). This season, the 6 tracks are as follows:
- Politics & Society
- Education & Learning
- Media & Public Spheres
- Science & Technology
- Economy & Innovation
- Arts & Culture
There are two festival sections: "Conference" for spoken contributions on the stages and for participatory approaches and workshops and "Off Stage" for all supporting programme taking place on the festival grounds beyond our stages.
CONFERENCE formats
Talk, Lightning Talk, Conversation, Panel discussion, Meet up, Speak up!, Workshop
OFF STAGE formats
