Matthew Stender

Matthew Stender is a Berlin-based tech ethicist whose research and advocacy focuses on the socio-cultural implications of emerging technology. 

Matthew is a fellow at the Center for Internet and Human Rights and sits on two working groups for the IEEE's Global Initiative on Ethics of Autonomous and Intelligent Systems where he contributes to the creation of global technical standards around artificial intelligence. Since 2015, Matthew has served as project strategist for Onlinecensorship.org - a project co-founded by the Electronic Frontier Foundation - that seeks to increase transparency around content moderation policies on social media networks.

Matthew holds an BA from the University of Texas at Dallas and an MA from the School of Journalism and Communication at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
