re:publica dives deeper into the cinematic world!

Our #rpTHE edition will be held at the historic port venues of the Thessaloniki festival, the Film Museum and the Warehouse 1. With cinema being a relatively new art form and directly connected with media technology and society, it is no surprise that re:publica has already hosted several sessions on the subject, including: Mobile Storytelling? New Player, New Money: Golden Era for Movies and TV?

The Film Museum has hosted exhibitions and screenings from some of the world’s most prolific directors over the years, such as Wim Wenders and many others. Warehouse 1 has been the venue for hundreds of post-screening Q&A’s, open discussions and honorary events that have brought together the many international filmmakers with their audience, a festival highlight that movie lovers await impatiently. So, film fans and cinephiles, come join us: you get a 50% discount on the entry fee to the Thessaloniki Film Museum, have the opportunity to explore the Thessaloniki film festival venues at the Warehouses and the Olympion at Aristotelous Square.

But film and filmmaking isn't just important in Thessaloniki. Film, media and all the new approaches to filmmaking have been a significant part of our convention in Berlin for some time. For four years now, re:publica has collaborated with the Medienboard Berlin – Bradenburg, the organisers behind the Media Convention Berlin: one of Europe’s pioneering media congresses.

Hosted by the Medienboard Berlin - Brandenburg and Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg, 2017 saw the event take place at STATION Berlin for the fourth time. From 8 to 10 May 2017, the stages of #MCB17 were dedicated to current issues concerning media and internet politics, market trends and developments in digital media society, issues that also influence the development of the filmmaking process.

You can find information on last year’s sessions here as well as read up on the speakers, many of them distinguished professionals from the film industry. The next annual Media Convention will take place from 2-4 May 2018 in Berlin. The call for participation starts in November, so be ready!
