Networking the digital society and creating spaces for the exchange of ideas has always been the aim of the re:publica. It has remained an international endeavour throughout the past eleven years. Once again this is exactly what we did in 2017 and we invited you to join us.The re:publica wouldn’t be the unique event that it is if it weren’t for your active participation, and we prepared quite an exciting package for you: our continued field trip!
To kick the whole thing off, we had the re:connecting EUROPE Space at re:publica 2017 in Berlin in May. Thanks to support from the German Federal Foreign Office, we welcomed participants and stakeholders from the creative industries of the port cities of Dublin and Thessaloniki to the #rp17. We discussed the common challenges and solutions facing activists, founders and artists in Europe.
From north to south: The re:publica field trip in September 2017
This was just a small taste of the exciting people and projects we met in Ireland and Greece! After two Round Table events in Thessaloniki and Dublin in the end of May and in early June respectively, we delved deeper in our second #rpDUB from 7 to 8 September 2017 at Light House Cinema. After which we moved straight on to discover the digital society of the South: the first re:publica Thessaloniki #rpTHE took place right after Dublin from 11 to 13 September 2017. Yay!
Continuing the first re:publica Dublin 2016
Already in 2016 we had gotten together with around 200 participants at the first #rpDUB in Dublin (read more in our re:view here). Our impression: the first re:publica outside of Germany felt almost exactly like the very first re:publica in Berlin in 2007. There was lots of room for discussion and a great exchange with the Irish digital community. After all, re:publica moves beyond just the event, becoming a network and an attitude. We want to ensure a sustainable strengthening of this network and are therefore we were not only excited the second re:publica Dublin, but also the very first re:publica Thessaloniki!
The re:publica Network is growing…
With the re:publicas in Dublin, Thessaloniki and Berlin, we wanted to do our part in establishing a platform for a networked digital society in Europe and help bundle the positive forces within it. So after gathering gathering representatives from the Irish, Greek and German creative industries at the re:connecting EUROPE Space in Berlin in May we packed our bags in September and began our trek from north to south.
A network is only as strong as its nodes
