Long Night of Ideas: The Human Touch - Ethics and Artificial Intelligence

The Human Touch - Ethik und Künstliche Intelligenz

1 June 2018, Lichthof Federal Foreign Office

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is on everyone's lips as the technology of the future. Advanced Computing and AI will slowly transform our society(s), culture(s), politics(s). And if AI is to be developed for the benefit of all and existing inequalities are not to be increased, we need thinkers who work together on how we build AI's and who does it.

The further development of AI is a joint societal project and a global challenge that must be viewed from a multidisciplinary perspective. How do we think about tomorrow today? Who benefits from these images of the future? How do you coexist with non-living beings? Know/Can algorithms morale? Where are there dangers lurking, and which actors meet on the field?

On this evening, re:publica will present important issues and initiate the debate in and with the public in discussion panels.

18:00 - 19:00 | Break Out I | Poster Session

The evening begins in an interactive setting in which you can playfully approach the topic of artificial intelligence: What is AI anyway? Is this still a dream of the future or is it already part of our everyday life? Will my job be done by AI in the future? Is there such a thing as a Hippocratic Oath for Artificial Intelligence developers? These and other questions can be asked and answered during this interactive session.

19:00 - 19:05 | Welcome

Joint welcome by the Federal Foreign Office & re:publica

19:05 - 19:45 | Opening Fireside Chat

Welcome to the most important conversation of our time! Why is a public discussion about "AI, ethics and society" necessary?
Thomas Fitschen, Philippe Lorenz

15 minutes of Q&A are reserved for questions from our audience.

19:45 - 20:15 | Break Out II | Ask Me Anything

AMA (Ask Me Anything) is a format where guests can ask any question - in this case, directly on stage. Our two heroines are exceptionally interesting: 15-year-old 10th grader and Girls Gearing Up participant Sachi Patil and developer Omosola Odetunde will attempt to answer your questions on AI. There will be 3 chairs on the stage, one which will be open for the audience.

20:15 - 21:15 | Panel Discussion I + Q&A

Machine twilight. Questions for a (no longer too) distant future
Christian Djeffal, Lorena Jaume-Palasí, Saskia Esken, Katja Weber

15 minutes of Q&A are reserved for questions from our audience.

21:15 - 22:00 | Break Out III | Artistic Position

Roman Lipski's muse is an artificial intelligence. He and Florian Dohmann will show and tell us how this works during this artistic position by allowing us to delve into his work of art through QR codes. Come prepared, be surprised!

22:00 - 23:15 | Panel Discussion II + Q&A

(A)I, robot!?: AI and Automation in Everyday Life
Thea Dorn, Gina Schad, Sarah Spiekermann, Petra Grimm, Eva Wolfangel

15 minutes of Q&A are reserved for questions from our audience.

from 23:15 - 23:30 | Wrap Up

In the wrap up we will explore any open questions, impulses and food for thought. Above all, we are curious to see what collective opinion the poster sessions have led to. Afterwards, the after party of the LNDI2018 takes place at the Umspannwerk.
