Virtual Experiences. For its first time, re:publica featured a programme track dedicated to art! It looked at moving art from the realm of theory to the realm of “experience”. “Immersive Arts” means diving head-first into art, committing yourself to it and becoming a part of it. The track featured hands-on participative interactions and whole environments which were set up on the re:publica grounds. It also encompassed participatory stage discussions and talks on art and art creation.

re:publica TEN was giving special attention to the latest technologies. The application of virtual reality and augmented reality technologies in art production and dissemination is an exciting topic in film, performance and even literature. Through the new “Immersive Arts” tracks, hosted in our new labore:tory location, we explored new approach in thinking and experiencing art. "Immersive Arts" was realised in cooperation with the Perfroming Arts Programm Berlin (PAP).

Since the launch of HTC Vive, Oculus Rift or Google Cardboard, Virtual Reality (VR) is widely used in artistic practice. Not only artists working with the digital deal with the new medium, also many artists from other fields e.g. performance of sculpting discover VR as a medium to extend and enhance their artistic ideas.
  • The interplay of immersive arts and media was examined in the "Immersive Arts" programme at re:publica TEN's labore:tory. Speakers presented their experiments and research from the interfaces of performance, theatre, literature, film, internet and technology.

  • We've declared virtual reality as the focus this year at the re:publica TEN. The trainees from the Bayerischen Rundfunk take you along on a small video tour that will hopefully whet your appetite to experience the immersive VR technology yourselves.

  • The art collective Shared_Studios is setting up a Portal on the street just opposite of the re:publica. Have a chat with the world!

No human being has ever spent such a long time in computer generated Virtual Reality.

DISCONNECTED will give you a taste of this future. Sara Lisa Vogl (VR Designer/ Lucid Trips/ VR Stammtisch) and first VRShaman created daily routines filled with interactions in virtual worlds.

As technologies emerge that make shift perspective, making a viewer feel like they're somewhere, letting one shift perspectives, story forms and conventions will change as well. at RYOT we're interested in how to play with these to compel people to take action in their world for good.
  • You have been waiting for this: Starting today, check out the #rpTEN programme schedule, find sessions that appeal to you and even put together your very own session plan for 2 – 4 May.

  • We look forward to our new cooperation with EDFVR. Virtual Reality will feature heavily at re:publica.

Through the new medium Virtual Reality there are never seen possibilities in making art visible in completely new and innovative ways. Creative minds out there are using latest tech to add new vividness to the common presentation of artworks. New ways of visualisation and storytelling are being explored and discovered. But one has to step into the Matrix to explore it hisself.
