Joe has been a part of the OpenFlexure project since 2019, working on the development of the 3D-printed OpenFlexure Microscope and meeting the need for affordable, locally maintainable medical hardware. After receiving his PhD in Physics and Engineering from the University of Bath for his work on automated slide scanning for malaria diagnosis in Tanzania, he now works as a Research Associate at the University of Glasgow. His current project centres around making digital pathology more accessible in underserved regions including areas of Rwanda, Brazil and the Philippines.
