Steve Macek

Dr. Steve Macek is a Professor of Communication and Media Studies at North Central College in Illinois, where he teaches courses on media studies, journalism and the First Amendment. He co-edited and contributed to Censorship, Digital Media and the Global Crackdown on Freedom (Peter Lang, 2024). He also contributed to Project Censored’s State of the Free Press 2024 (Seven Stories Press, 2023). His op-eds, commentaries and articles have appeared in a variety of print and online publications, including The Atlanta Journal Constitution, The Columbus Dispatch, The News & Observer, The Seattle Times, Truthout, Common Dreams, Z Magazine, The Progressive and Ms. Magazine. He was recently elected as the Vice President of the Illinois State Conference of the American Association of University Professors.
