The panel on arthouse games / artgames aims to stimulate dialogue about the games industry's responsibility in an increasingly polarized world. It will discuss the influence of political and social issues in games and consider how developers can fulfill their responsibility while retaining creative freedom to tell radical and transformative stories.
The panel include:
- Censorship and Moderation: How platforms regulate political content and how this restricts creativity.
- Culture of Remembrance: The role of games in preserving and communicating history and social memory.
- Resistance to Populist Systems: How games can be used as a political tool against authoritarian tendencies.
- The Punk Attitude of Games: How indie and arthouse games are embracing the role of resistance and the challenges of the mainstream.
- The future of storytelling: How games as an art form can address contemporary politics and social aspects of life.
This session is part of the programme special ON SCREEN and was curated by A MAZE.
