At the heart of the EU effort to regulate Big Tech are the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the Digital Markets Act (DMA): two landmark laws designed to prevent abuse of power of major platforms, enforce transparency, protect users’ rights, and ensure fair competition in the digital space.
Where do things stand in terms of their implementation? How are Meta, Google & Co. reacting to these new rules? And is this enough to prevent abuse of power and safeguard fundamental rights online?
In this fireside chat, we ask: What concrete steps is Europe taking to strengthen digital sovereignty? And how can we build infrastructure that we truly trust – because it is democratically governed, and not just controlled by a handful of tech giants? How can we build a human centric tech leadership? What steps are we taking to prevent foreign interference and protect our democracy, especially during election campaigns? What is the EU doing to strengthen skills and digital literacy ?
