By 2025, ten years will have passed since world leaders signed the Paris Agreement and committed to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Yet the gap between ambition and action has widened. Key targets remain unachieved, while political setbacks - such as the rollback of U.S. climate policy - highlight the critical need for renewed international commitment, scientific collaboration, and political courage to address the climate crisis head-on.
The unchecked progression of the climate crisis carries the risk of triggering irreversible shifts in Earth’s systems. Evidence of these changes is mounting, and the first Planetary Health Check has revealed alarming trends. Using the Planetary Boundaries framework, it offers a scientific foundation for understanding how human well-being is inseparably linked to a stable Earth system, enabling an integrated analysis of global development goals within ecological limits.

Without bold transformation, both the SDGs and the Paris targets will be missed. Yet a path remains open - through science-based change that secures prosperity on a resilient and stable planet.
