Marcel Dickow, PhD, is Head of Department Science – Policy – Society at the The German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, where he is resposible for the science based policy advice of the academy . Prior to his actual position he was heading the unit "Digitalization and Sustainability" at the German Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt, UBA), where he was dealing with topics such as sustainable digitalization, Green IT, AI, and the digital transformation of societies and institutions. Before his affiliation with UBA he was heading SWPs Research Divison „International Security“ and coordinated iPRAW, the International Panel on the Regulation of Autonomous Weapons. He is a physicist by training from the Technical University of Berlin and holds a Master degree in Peace and Security Studies from the University of Hamburg. During his post-doc fellowship on European Space Policy, he visited institutions such as the European Space Policy Insitute, the European Commission and MIT. Since 2009 Marcel Dickow has been working on topics such as defence technology, space policy, European defence cooperation, robotics, digitalization, AI and cyber security.
