Media Summit

At the Media Summit on the second day of re:publica, we will focus on topics related to the moving image. We will take a look behind the scenes and discuss the streaming market, fiction and non-fiction formats, documentaries and content creators.

The Media Summit and the Media Track of re:publica are funded by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and supported by Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg.

Programme

How many streaming providers do we still have to subscribe to? Can you still keep up with all the popular series? ARD and ZDF, the private broadcasters and the streaming services are fighting for our attention in the same market - and for our media budget. It's high time that all parties involved sit down together: At the opening of the Media Summit, Kai Gniffke (Chairman of ARD), Sabine Anger (Paramount+) and Henrik Pabst (Chief Content Officer of Seven. One Entertainment Group) discuss: Who has the best media library, the most exciting content, who affords the most expensive productions - and in the end has the most successful strategy?

…and action!

At the Media Summit, we look not only at big high-end productions but also at the small series gems that are hiding in the media libraries and sometimes tackle the big social issues: The sadcom "Mapa" tells about the challenges in the life of a single father. A Thin Line" is about climate activism and cybercrimes - is this the series of the hour? Cast and crew tell us how they developed the material and almost got caught up in reality.

A look behind the scenes

Everyone is watching documentaries and listening to investigative podcasts - we discuss with the producers: Documentaries are not just about imparting knowledge, they are also about exciting storytelling and entertainment. How do you find the right balance here?

There's one topic we can't avoid: the media industry is struggling with a huge shortage of skilled workers, film sets can't be filled, showrunners and highly qualified talents in the VFX industry are desperately sought after. What can be done against poor working conditions and for more diversity behind the camera?

We also take a literal look behind the scenes of productions like "The Mandalorian" or "1899" - how are films and series produced in virtual LED backdrops? The VFX industry is creating ever more realistic worlds - will we eventually no longer need real actors and actresses?

“Something with media” – the media track at re:publica 23

On all three days of re:publica, the media track will once again deal with a wide range of topics that move the media industry and us as a society: How are algorithms and artificial intelligence changing journalism? How do we save local journalism? We also look at Twitter after the takeover by Elon Musk and at alternative platforms in the Fediverse. Whether climate journalism, disinformation, the reforms in public broadcasting or the teaching of news literacy in schools - there is a lot to discuss.

Media Parcours: Immerse yourself in VR experiences

You need a break and want to immerse yourself in another world away from the festival hustle and bustle? The Arena Club will be transformed into an immersive "Media Parcours" for #rp23. In the maze of rooms, you can experience VR applications and try out games. Keep your eyes wide open: You'll find XR experiences and interactive art installations all over the festival grounds.
