What’s Happening at the Makerspace?

Workshops

We’re excited to be back with a packed three-day program of workshops, all hosted around our Makerspace high square table. Whether a returning participant or a first-timer, you’ll have plenty of chances to experiment, learn, and meet fellow makers.

We’ll kick off the program with generative video creation using DOG-VC and opportunities to program LED animations with Python. If sustainability is your thing, you can build solar-powered sensor setups, or create a solar-powered website.

Repair Café

Berlin has a thriving network of repair projects and cafés, where locals of all ages learn to care for their well-loved items - and reduce waste in the process. Bring your old gadgets, phones, and laptops and learn from experienced repair experts from Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg, and beyond. You’ll get hands-on advice on upgrading laptops with Linux, reviving smartphones with open-source software, and fixing household devices like sewing machines, power tools, and food mixers.

Repairing instead of throwing away isn’t just practical. It’s a mindset. It challenges the idea of disposable tech and teaches valuable skills that connect generations. Whether you’re new to fixing things or a seasoned DIYer, join the conversation about how repair culture can make a real difference and how you can get involved locally.

Daily Schedule and Focus

Open from 2 PM with demos and workshops. Roundtable discussion at 4:30 PM on key issues in the repair community - everyone is welcome!

  • Monday Focus: Textiles and clothing
  • Tuesday Focus: Smartphones and other digital devices (focus on upgrades, not hardware repairs)
  • Wednesday Focus: Laptops, household and electrical gadgets

Note: We can’t promise to fix or upgrade everything, but we’ll do our best to help and offer guidance.

Kids Maker Corner: A Space for Young Makers

New this year is the Kids Maker Corner, a collaboration between Junge Tüftler (Berlin) and Vivistop Baguio (Philippines), both members of the Global Innovation Gathering (GIG). It’s a playful, hands-on zone where kids (and curious adults) can explore creative projects.

Activities include:

  • Decorate old clothes with vinyl cutting and a heat press. Bring your old clothes!
  • Creative crafting: Make jewellery, keychains or necklaces using a 3D printer and polymer clay.

Kids Maker Corner is open to kids aged eight and up. Younger children are welcome but will need an adult present, as we’ll use simple tools like glue and scissors.

Why Visit the Makerspace?

Since 2014 the Makerspace has been a meeting point for creative minds, designers, inventors and coders from the maker scene at re:publica. Anyone interested in digital fabrication, laser cutting, tinkering or soldering is very welcome at the Makerspace all day throughout re:publica. Together with you, we want to create a space for creativity and the exchange of knowledge. Join other participants and create something new for our digital future.

The Makerspace is curated and coordinated by our friends of Global Innovation Gathering e.V. (GIG) with support from their new community partner FAB 25. FAB25 is an international gathering for the global FabLab network, makers, researchers, and innovators. Together GIG and FAB25 will bring exciting makers and speakers to this year’s re:publica. That the Makerspace will be a lively and inclusive place for all ages is also made possible by Friedrichshain, Kreuzberg and Topio Repair Cafés as well as Junge Tüftler and Vivistop Baguio
