The 2019 Hong Kong protests and the implementation of the national security law in 2020 are the key turning points of the trajectory of this Asia cosmopolitan. The political turmoil, however, seems to have strengthened the city's cultural identity, giving rise to a new wave of culture, from Canto-pop to contemporary art. It has garnered support from not just locally but also a newly emerged Hong Kong diaspora who are striving to maintain their roots. This session examines this new phenomenon against the backdrop of the changing socio-political landscape. We will also play a few songs and look at some art.
