Gilberto Vieira is an urban researcher, data activist, and co-founder of data_labe, a media and research organization rooted in Brazilian favelas and urban peripheries. His work explores how data, digital technologies, and power shape cities, with a particular focus on data justice, digital activism, and alternative urban futures emerging from the Global South. Gilberto has collaborated with international research and cultural institutions in Europe and the United States and was a fellow of the Emerging Media Leaders program at the International Center for Journalists. He regularly works at the intersection of research, education, and grassroots organizing, designing learning experiences on data literacy and civic technologies for journalists, activists, and community leaders. His writings and projects address themes such as urban technopolitics, citizen-led data practices, and peripheral epistemologies, contributing to global debates on technology, democracy, and social justice from situated and decolonial perspectives.
