Jenny Odell is an artist and writer based in Oakland, California. Her work, which critiques individualism, anthropocentrism, and the attention economy, also represents the search for a new perception of the everyday. Odell is the author of the New York Times bestsellers How to Do Nothing: : and Saving Time: Discovering a Life Beyond the Clock. She has been an artist in residence at Recology SF (also known as the dump), the Internet Archive, and the San Francisco Planning Department. From 2013 to 2021, Odell taught digital art at Stanford University. She is an avid and involuntary birdwatcher.
