Cara Hunter is an elected politician in the Northern Ireland Assembly for the Social Democratic and Labour Party. She is the spokesperson for Education, Children and Young People, a former spokesperson for Social Justice, and founded the All-Party Committee for Addiction and Dual Diagnosis.
Cara is a respected speaker in the evolving world of AI in politics, having addressed audiences from Florence to Brussels on the issue. Last year delivered a TEDTalk in Vienna on her lived experience as a deepfake victim, and the need to address the rising risks and impact of AI on truth and democracy.
Before entering politics, Cara studied broadcast journalism at California State University, Northridge, and graduated with a BA (Hons) in Journalism from Liverpool John Moores University. She was elected to Derry City and Strabane Council in 2019 and was the youngest Deputy Mayor ever at the age of twenty-three.
Entering the Stormont Assembly at the age of twenty-four, Cara became one of the youngest elected politicians in the history of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
