If humanity can be inspired to think of planet Earth as a spacecraft, our imaginaries can transform the way we live, learn and build. For a more prosperous present and sustainably inclusive future, we must learn from the past to create new planetary foundational design for our homeworld mothership.

A “mothership” is traditionally thought of as a craft that launches other smaller craft. As humanity enters the space age, the crafts that have so far left Earth’s gravitational pull have been designed in the image of its creators at the time of development. We now have an opportunity to forge a new path centering five essentials for long term human flourishing: air, water, food, shelter and care.

This talk will trace humanity’s global civilizational expansion over the past 65,000 years to understand what lessons we can learn from history to design more sustainable future structures in the age of rocketry, and how our species can not give up on our home world as we plan further exploration beyond the moon.

By learning from long-entrenched civilizations like the first nations peoples of Australia, and the design approaches of long-lasting cradles of civilizations founded around 3000 BCE, who held a deep understand of the night sky. we can better understand what it takes to engineer persistent social structures that overcome scarcity and facilitate social cohesion.

We're all part of the long arc of the human experience, we are all members of Team Planet aboard Mothership Earth.
