Julia Pohle she/her

Julia has been thinking, researching, and arguing about digital policy for more than 15 years.  Long before “digital sovereignty” became a buzzword, she was already writing about it, tracking the hype ever since with a critical eye and a sense for historical and theoretical context.  

Julia is Deputy Director at the Centre Marc Bloch and project lead at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. She is also an associate researcher with the Center for Digitalisation, Democracy and Innovation at the Brussels School of Governance as well as the CNRS Center for Internet and Society in Paris, and serves as an academic editor of the open access journal Internet Policy Review. She holds a PhD in Communication Studies and an MA spanning Cultural Studies, Philosophy, and Computer Science. Her work focuses on digital policy, global communication governance, internet governance, and digital geopolitics, and she regularly consults policy institutions, such as the German government, the GIZ and the European Commission on these topics.
