Margarete Jahrmann, is a ludic artist and experienced artistic researcher. She is co-founder of the Ludic Society and since 2021 head of the newly established department for EXPERIMENTAL GAME CULTURES at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, where also runs a NEUROMATIC GAME ART LAB since 2020 and 2023 a BIOLUDIC LAB. Before this she was professor for Game Design at the Zurich University of the Arts. In her collaborative and interdisciplinary artistic practice, she explores ludic art and activism. She creates hybrid performative and installative “Ludic” works dealing with Game Cultures and political consciousness. Her art deals with neuroscientific research and technologies, emerging fields of the art and design of play and the human condition. Her artistic research evolves around the concept and idea of a Ludic society and method — with the aim to introduce game changer games. Her work can be found in the Computerspielemuseum Berlin, ZKM Karlsruhe, Ars Electronica and her pioneer game art work nybble engine anti-war shooter will launch the new digital collection of TMW, technical museum Vienna in 2023.

Jahrmann was awarded the Media Arts price of the City of Vienna in 2020, and among other rewards the distinction in interactive arts at ars electronica 2003 and received a transmediale award in 2004. She is curating exhibitions (Parallel 2022, Piran Costal Gallery 2022, Festival Angewandte Program 2021), Jury member at numerous creative game funds, at the Pixel Bytes& Film program Austria and leads artistic research teams and projects (FWF/PEEK) such as Neuromatic Game Art,: Critical Play with Neurointerfaces and the INTRA project "Biological Interfaces, Ludic Cultures and Non-human Agencies. Games of/in/with/beyond Life."
