In 2004 she gained her Ph.D. from the Humboldt University Berlin with the dissertation Kunst aus dem Labor, published in 2005 with Springer. In 2009 she published the book Art in the Age of Technoscience: Genetic Engineering, Robotics, and Artificial Life in Contemporary Art with Springer and in 2021 she edited the anthology Plastic Ocean: Art and Science Responses to Marine Pollution with De Gruyter. She advises a number of institutions like the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia (NanoARTS) and the sci-art programme NaturArchy at the Joint Research Centre (JRC) in Ispra, Italy, the European Commission’s science and knowledge service. In March 2022 she joined the Board of Trustees of the ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe.
