What connects generations X, Y and Z? More than we think! This might be because society itself is more complex than our social media feed, says Laura-Kristine Krause. At re:publica 25, we'll take a joint look at the similarities between the generations.

From boomers to the “woke” youth - we often encounter generational prejudices in the public debate. Discussions about social division and polarization are more prevalent than ever. So it's about time to shift the spotlight! Because people of different ages are more united then they are divided. This is also confirmed by the research carried out by More in Common Germany. Since 2018, the non-profit organization has been investigating social dynamics in Germany in order to understand what moves people and which topics provoke particularly emotional reactions. Their goal? A society that has been strengthened at its core and is able to respond to social change in a united and resilient manner.

As founding managing director of More in Common Germany and author of the study, Laura-Kristine Krause is an expert on social cohesion and democracy. Previously, the political scientist headed the “Future of Democracy” program at the Berlin think tank Das Progressive Zentrum. Since 2022, she has also been an advisor to the Schöpflin Foundation and a member of the ZDF Television Council. In addition, she has been involved in international youth work and other initiatives for social change for more than 20 years - and in this way remains connected to different generations.
