Saba-Nur Cheema and Meron Mendel are raising a child together. At #rp25, they'll talk about what it means to be Jewish, Muslim, Israeli, Pakistani, Hessian and all of these at the same time. With a lot of humour and self-irony, the two talk about their family life between assimilation and separation and demonstrate that identity does not have to be thought of as either-or.
Saba-Nur Cheema works as a political scientist. From 2015-2021, she was the educational director of the Anne Frank Educational Centre in Frankfurt. She was then a member of the German government's Independent Expert Group on Anti-Muslim Racism, which was appointed after the attacks in Hanau. Today, Saba-Nur is a research associate at Goethe University Frankfurt and researches anti-Semitism in childhood. She is also a member of the executive committee of the Goethe-Institut.
Meron Mendel became politically active early on, particularly in Jewish-Palestinian dialogue. He has been Director of the Anne Frank Educational Centre since 2010. In 2021, he took up a professorship at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, specialising in transnational social work, where he teaches on topics such as democracy education, migration society and human rights.
