In our Special "Media", the re:publica 22 programme focuses on current trends and topics in the media landscape, both in Germany and internationally. In the CONFERENCE programme, we will approach the topics of media policy, society and media as well as the media industry from different angles. Together we will examine current technological network developments such as metaverses, NFTs and Web3 and their impact on business models and users.

Digital media and freedom of expression will be discussed, the transformation of public spheres analysed, and the further development of social media platforms as information and storytelling channels debated. How do we as a society deal with hate & disinformation and how can we counteract them? We also give a voice to local projects and initiatives to discuss the media policy situation in the Berlin-Brandenburg region.

As part of the special "Media", speakers include journalist Juliane Löffler, politician Tessa Ganserer, media scientist Bernhard Pörksen, Sascha Lobo, Twitch streamer Shurjoka, Twitter legend El Hotzo, comedian Aurel Mertz, Facebook whistleblower Frances Haugen, producer Jamila Wenske, director & screenwriter Kerstin Polte, publicist Wolfgang Blau, AC Coppens, AI scientist Kate Crawford, presenters Eva Schulz and Tilo Jung, Jan Georg Schütte (Kranitz) and Ezra Phul (HYPE).

The content debates are complemented by the HANDS ON programme with workshops, roundtables, tutorials and games. Here, people discuss, tinker, play and create new things together. How do you use TikTok today and how can you tell a story in 30 seconds? How can I identify fake news or deal with hate on the net? How do I post without barriers? How do I become a media entrepreneur? The OFF STAGE programme takes up the topics dealt with in the Special "Media" in different creative positions and makes them accessible to a broad audience. There will be various formats to discover at the interfaces of art and technology, research and interactive community work throughout the festival site.

As a highlight, we would like #rp22 participants to experience "cinema LED technology made in Potsdam". The HALOSTAGE—Virtual Production Stage will move to #rp22 in its "mobile" version and show what the future of filmmaking could look like. This new technology will be explained and demonstrated on site by experts.

The Arena Club will be transformed into an immersive "Media Parcours" for #rp22. In the labyrinthine rooms of the building, we will show video works by emerging artists. An interactive installation deals with the data cloud and picks up on the re:publica motto "Any Way the Wind Blows". In addition, different practices of mixed reality applications will be on display in three different VR experiences.

In front of the Arena Club, the "Media Meetups" take place on the terrace with a view of the hustle and bustle on and around the Badeschiff. It is the meeting and anchor point for all those who want to exchange ideas and network around the special "Media".

On 11.06.2022, the fourth day of re:publica 22, we will be devoting ourselves exclusively to the written word in the Glashaus and at the Badeschiff on the Arena grounds, thus going back a little to the origins of the former bloggers' conference. The "Media" special will make up part of the ".txt", where we will focus on scripts and game scripting alongside literature, blogs, comics, song lyrics, podcasts and tweets. More info and tickets are available here.

The "Media" Special is funded by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg (MBB) and supported by Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg (mabb).
