Movies, series, games, XR – everything on one screen

For this year's ON SCREEN programme special, we are dedicating the second #rp25 day to moving images and the future of audiovisual media! On May 27, 2025, we will turn STATION Berlin into the central meeting place for everyone who not only wants to consume films, series, games and XR, but also aims to actively participate in their creation.

A day full of inspiration, dialogue and innovation for the audiovisual media world of tomorrow: Participants can expect captivating discussions with leading industry experts on stage, practical workshops, an interactive exhibition area on the media location Berlin-Brandenburg and joint networking in the evening. At ON SCREEN, established media professionals meet digital pioneers, gamers meet academics, directors and managers of broadcasters and media companies meet content creators, media and net politicians meet developers and journalists.

This is an opportunity for fresh collaborations to emerge at the interface of various disciplines and for current trends to be discussed and developed further. Along those lines, ON SCREEN sees itself as a compass for all those who work at the interface of audiovisual media, technology, politics and policy making and want to actively shape the future of the industry.

Our partners

For the first time this year, the program special ON SCREEN and the media track at re:publica 25 are being created in close cooperation with various actors from Berlin-Brandenburg. Among them are: Seriesly Berlin, MediaTech Hub Conference, Games Ground and A MAZE., as well as dokumentale.

ON SCREEN is funded by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.

The programme

How will we consume and produce audiovisual content in the future? Who has the best strategy in the highly competitive market for attention? And how can different media disciplines learn from each other? We will be discussing all this and much more with numerous creative minds and in exciting formats in the ON SCREEN programme special:

Rethinking the future: The Seriesly Berlin festival will discuss whether the future lies in the abandonment of gloomy dystopian narratives and the advocacy of a ‘protopia’. Creatives, thought leaders and storytellers will explore how serialised storytelling can shape our vision of the future as well as our attitudes: How can we use our imagination to shape a better tomorrow? What impulses do new narrative styles and technologies provide to create inspiring imaginations of the future? And how can the interaction of creative minds across disciplines and generations promote innovative narratives?

The Gaming Revolution: Today, video games are shaping our entire digital culture. In a session curated by Games Ground, we will discover how games are redefining our interactions, media consumption and even marketing strategies – across generations. How is the gaming industry changing the way we communicate and tell stories?

Art meets Gaming: Do games always have to be entertaining or can they also bear social responsibility? A MAZE. joins us to shed light on the interface between games and art. How are political and social issues dealt with in independent games? Do we need more courageous arthouse games that encourage us to reflect?

Shared media experiences: How can we re-create shared experiences in a fragmented media world? The MediaTech Hub Conference is dedicated to this key question of our times. In an era in which different generations use different platforms, experts from social media, TV and content creation will discuss cross-platform storytelling and future-proof strategies for collective media experiences.

Focus on truth: What does the future hold for documentaries in times of disinformation and digital surveillance? The panel curated by dokumentale brings together international filmmakers to discuss the challenges of investigative work in the digital age. The panel will focus on questions regarding the protection of journalistic sources, the preservation of credibility and the potential of new technologies for innovative documentary forms of storytelling.

Apart from the stage programme, you can try out the latest regional games and XR projects yourself during our interactive exhibition. Immerse yourself in virtual worlds, test innovative applications and talk to the creators of the projects. Practical workshops complement the programme – more details will follow soon!
