Ela Kagel is a digital strategist and expert in commons-based economies, organisational design, and cooperativism. Since the 1990s, Ela has been at the forefront of shaping spaces for cultural exchange and building networks & digital platforms that prioritise collective empowerment.
In 2010, she co-founded SUPERMARKT, an independent hub for digital culture and collaborative economy in Berlin, where she has spent over a decade organising conferences, workshops, and research projects aimed at advancing cooperative models and digital innovation.
Since 2019, Ela is co-founder and board member of Platform Coops eG, a cooperative that enables the development of fair, inclusive, and sustainable economic models. She is co-founder of Poetic Technologies, a collective enterprise whose mission is to liberate the technical imagination from bureaucratic technologies. She serves as the chair of the advisory board of SuperCoop, a cooperative supermarket entirely run by its members. Her previous roles include artistic direction of MoneyLab Berlin (2021), curation for the Transmediale Festival (2009–2011) and working with Public Art Lab for many years.
