Can I register my volunteer work at re:publica as educational leave?

Last year re:publica unfortunately did not meet the formal criteria of Berlin's Educational Leave Act (BiZeitG). However, this does not mean that you cannot apply for special vacation time to attend! 

We recommend that you speak directly to your employer. There are often special internal regulations in place for this. Many companies support attendance at re:publica as part of their regular training budget or through individual time off – even without formal recognition as educational leave.

In principle, it is not possible to have periods of work recognised as "Bildungurlaub/-zeit" (educational leave). However, the experience of some former volunteers shows that some employers are willing to make it possible, because of the educational nature of re:publica – so it's best to ask your employer directly.
