Hands On

This facilitated workshop allows attendees to follow their curiosity and unlock their creativity to map the area surrounding the conference. It encourages experimenting with perception and thinking critically about why the city is the way it is and why it makes us feel how we feel.

Creative mapping aims to disrupt existing narratives and structures of meaning by seeing and documenting a place in new ways. It uses exercises, prompts, and a collective plenary session to foreground the emotional and psychological experience of being in the city.

Participants will briefly meet with the facilitator, before being given an hour to explore the streets on their own or in groups. They will receive a map of the surrounding area, and prompts to complete when exploring the surrounding streets. The group will then reconvene for a 30-minute session to collectively produce a map based on their feelings, experiences, speculations, and experiments.

The final map will be then be shared as a place-based document of the emotional and psychogeographical landscape surrounding re:publica 24.
