Hands On

Imagine what a kid, a teen whose life has been one of conflict, as a 'child-soldier' can do with skills forced on them to fight? If that kid can disassemble clean, and put back together an AK-47 rifle - blindfolded - what hands-on skills can this example be transformed into? This workshop session bring together a leading South Sudanese open tech trainer and a Cameroonian conflict journalist / activist ask and present the questions of where do peacebuilding, digital activism and hands-on maker culture intersect? Born of the need to take open tech training into the field by South Sudanese refugees and makers from South Sudan, #ASKotec, the 'Access to Skills and Knowledge emergency case' has now been deployed to support youth innovation in countering the brutal conflict in Cameroon's Anglophone regions.
