Mimi Hapig is co-founder and strategy director of the intercultural maker-space Habibi.Works in Greece. Born and raised at the German border with Switzerland and France, she moved on to live, work and study in several Latin American and European countries. At the age of 25, she moved to Greece, where she spent 7 years building, maintaining and reinventing the lighthouse project Habibi.Works. The project provides 11 workshop areas for people living in refugee camps and Greek locals free of charge, where people can gain or share a skill, build both objects and connections, and create solutions themselves.
Throughout the years, Mimi has created a community of thousands of men and women, among them craftspeople, experts, activists, artists, supporters and more from all around the world, joining forces to show that the phenomenon of forced migration and the impact it has on people's lives can be approached differently: in solidarity, with respect, towards the creation of agency and dignity. The project has been awarded various prizes and Mimi has been recognised within several leadership programs.
