This time for Republica I am planning a maker-space session related to the Environment-friendly hand-made printing of the fabrics. This is around a 500-year-old technique of first creating color with food waste and natural ingredients and then using wooden blocks for printing the block design with color on the fabric by hand only. This type of printing was first done in the Jaipur city of India. Whatever food and organic waste is left by the King and the family members they used to put in a pot and then after a few days it is mixed with the water and then a natural color is made with the help of the same. Since no printing machine was available at that time, hence they created wooden blocks of different styles which are hand made like elephant drawings, butterflies, flower designs, etc. was made on the blocks and then these wooden blocks were first dipped in natural color and then wooden blocks were pushed on the walls for decoration purposes. Nowadays similar technique is used to print the same design with the help of wooden blocks on cotton fabrics, bed sheets, shirts, etc. In the session, I am going to show how this old technique which is 100% environmentally friendly and have shared the same as a part of GIG community as well.
