Carolin Fischer is directing the strategic thematic field Caring Society at Bern University of Applied Sciences (BFH). She is also researching and teaching at the Department of Social Work at BFH. Her current project is entitled Violent Safe Havens? Exploring Articulations and Repercussions of Violence in Refugee Reception and Settlement. Funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, it explores the interplay of violence and safety in refugee protection. Between 2014 – 2023, Carolin held different post-doctoral research and teaching positions at the University of Bern and the University of Neuchâtel. From 2017 – 2019, she led an international research project entitled Engendering migration, development and belonging, which was funded by the Swiss Network of International Studies (SNIS). Carolin holds a DPhil (PhD) in Development Studies from the University of Oxford, and a diploma degree in Sociology from Bielefeld University.
